Love, Whoppers, and the Law
The following is a close approximation of the homily delivered at the 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM Mass at St Luke the Evangelist Church in Slidell. The scripture readings on which this homily is based can be found by clicking here
There is a story about a man who went to confession. Bless me Father for I have sinned…. I ate meat on Good Friday.
Oh really, said the priest…. Tell me more….
I went to Burger King. I meant to order a fish sandwich, but instead I ordered a Whopper and ate it. said the penitent
There is a very long pause. My son, there is no sin in that, said the priest
Now the penitent is confused. Why Father? Has the rule on abstinence on Good Friday changed?
No my son. Said the priest. There is no meat in a Whopper.
