If you look up the definition of the word  protest  then it would probably be technically correct to consider what  former NFL player Colin Kaepernick did last year and what NFL players did on the weekend of  September 24th a protest of sorts.  It quickly becomes murky, however that these were legitimate protests.   Why do I think these might have been considered illegitimate? Why do I think that this was mere posing? Some call it virtue signaling, an action that lets people know where you stand, without actually doing anything about your position.

In a protest there are generally four clear and distinct elements. First, is the thing, action, or group that is considered unjust.  Second is the person or people doing the protesting.  Third is the action taken in the protest.

The following is a close approximation of the homily I delivered at St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Slidell, LA September 16-17.  The scripture readings on which this homily is based can be found by clicking this link.

Is there someone in your life, current or past that has hurt you or a family member so badly that you just cannot forgive them.

This is an approximation of the homily I delivered at St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Slidell for the 22nd Sunday in ordinary time, Year A.  The scripture on which this is based can be found by clicking this link.

If you ask the question “What’s the best material with which to construct a building.?” the answer you get would likely depend on the background and mindset of the person you asked.  A metalworker or welder, would probably want to construct it out of steel.
