The following is a close approximation of the homily I delivered October 15, 2017 at St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Slidell. The scripture readings on which this is based can be read by clicking this link.

The word content comes from the Latin contentus which roughly means  completely satisfied with your situation.  As a youngster, I earned money by gardening and lawn care in the neighborhood. During college, I worked for a small landscaping company mostly in the very expensive houses along the lakefront in New Orleans.   I remember seeing wealthy business men leave their expensive homes, wearing nice clothes and driving off in nice cars. I could not wait until I graduated and be like them.
