The following is a close approximation of the homily I delivered at Saint Luke the Evangelist Church in Slidell, LA. the weekend of January 20-21. The scripture readings on which is based can be found by clicking this link.

When I was a small child, we played a game where one person would move around, jump, dance, sing or whatever and then everyone else would have to follow or mimic him.  Players who failed to follow were out.  When one person remained, that player won, and it started over. That game is follow the leader.  My friends hated when I was leader. Just being me (I have not changed much!)  I would do things that almost no one else could do like walk on my hands, climb trees and hang from branches like a monkey, and scale up the sides of houses.
