Christians Filled With the Holy Spirit: Unwrapping our Gifts.
The following is a close approximation of the homily I delivered at St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Slidell, for the 3rd Sunday in Easter, Year B at the 6 PM Mass, April 15, 2018.
Cardinal Timothy Dolan, the Archbishop of New York, is an outgoing cheerful bishop who readily admits that he has not passed on too many meals. One of the many things that a new bishop must do is come up with a motto. The Cardinal tells this story about when he was first appointed bishop in Illinois. He was asked what he wanted his motto to be. His response in Latin was taken from today’s Gospel. Deadpan response was, Habes cibum? Which roughly translates “You got anything to eat?”
Cardinal Dolan has a refreshing, self-deprecating since of humor.
