Are you a Mary or a Martha?: A different point of view
The following is a close approximation of the homily I delivered at St. Luke the Evangelist Church in Slidell LA for the 16th Sunday in ordinary time year C. The scripture on which this is based can be found by clicking this link.
A traditional definition of hospitality is the friendly and generous reception of guests or strangers. In praying over the scriptures this week, I had the occasion to reflect on hospitality experiences in our family. Over 30 years ago, tired of packing the children in the car for every holiday and visiting someone on both sides of our family, we picked a holiday and declared it “ours.” We selected Thanksgiving and announced that we were preparing dinner and that anyone who wanted to come was welcomed.
